Holy Spirit. When we talk about the Holy Spirit, it seems to cause friction in some sectors of the church. I don’t know why, but I can guess that one reason may be, he isn’t known. That’s right, it’s not a question of what it is but who HE is. The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Godhead, or trinity, or deity. The Holy Spirit has many roles that he wants to play in our lives, but many of those either get rejected or simply aren’t known by us, his people. Who the Holy Spirit is, is God. He is the same Spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day. He is the spirit that hovered over the deep at creation. He is the breath in our lungs and he is the promised seal of our salvation. Let’s see who else he is.
“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.” Romans 8:11
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30
“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” Genesis 1:2
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;” 1 Corinthians 6:19
“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
Genesis 2:7
“And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
John 20:22
“Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” 2 Corinthians 5:5
Now these really only begin to captivate the roles the Holy Spirit is commissioned to carry out in our lives, but who he is is far deeper. He a witness to the moves of God and the innovator too.
“And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”” Acts 5:32
“His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:” Luke 1:67
Our precious Holy Spirit is the one who chose to come following Jesus’ ascension that we would not be left as orphans in the earth (John 14:18). He came that he might bring joy, teaching us all the things of the Lord.
“And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 13:52
“for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”” Luke 12:12
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26
Holy Spirit wants to be our best friend. The one who is invited to go everywhere with us, even though he is already there. He deserves to be included in your thoughts, plans, ideas, and concerns. He wants to help you, heal you, and move through you. When you begin to operate on a daily basis of creating an awareness of his constant presence then you will have the boldness you need to step out and fulfill your purpose.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” Matthew 28:19
Don’t discredit Holy Spirit as the lesser of the Godhead because you think he doesn’t have a body. YOU ARE his body, act on his behalf.
I mainly gave scriptures in this post to show that the only way to know who God, the Holy Spirit, is is to know the Word of God and practice it.
