I know

Last week, I shared a little bit of my journey in coming to know who I am as a child of God. I promised to show you who you are in this big, wonderful beautiful family of God. “God is not a man that he should lie” (Num. 23:19), so I will not be one who lies!

First, we must start with becoming a child of God. Before you can know who you are, you must be sure of whose you are. So, are you indeed a child of God?

“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—”

‭‭John‬ ‭1:12‬ ‭

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:1‬a‭

“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith,”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:26‬ ‭

Those in Christ Jesus are children of God. Being in Jesus is by faith and Romans 10:9-10 says “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

‭‭‬When you’ve got that covered, you can begin to discover who you are in Jesus. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:17‬ You start off brand new! A blank slate ready to be carved into the image and likeness of Jesus. That means you don’t have to take your insecurities, ailments, allergies, injuries, disappointments, pains, deficiencies, addictions, stresses with you into this new life. Believing and knowing that everything that once caused you trouble no longer HAS TO be a challenge for you is the foundation of faith you can stand in when troubles come. You can say, “NO! I don’t have to accept this because I am free!”

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John‬ ‭8:36‬ ‭‭

You know you are new. You know you are free. That’s not all, there’s so much more and in God there is ALWAYS more.

“For just as Christ’s sufferings are ours in abundance [as they overflow to His followers], so also our comfort [our reassurance, our encouragement, our consolation] is abundant through Christ [it is truly more than enough to endure what we must].”

‭‭2 CORINTHIANS‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭AMP‬‬

We are victorious.

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:37‬ ‭

“With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭60:12‬ ‭

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:57‬ ‭

We are healed.

“ ‘Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭33:6‬ ‭

““He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.””

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:24‬ ‭

Above all else and with everything else in mind, first and foremost we are loved. The entire bible is a love story from God to his people, us. We know that because he loved us he sent Jesus as a ransom for our sins (1 Tim. 2:6). We know that love by Jesus sending the Holy Spirit as deposit guaranteeing the return of Jesus (2 Cor. 1:22). We know that love is our gift and our mission because Jesus gave the two commandments to live by love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and love your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27). We can know who we are because we know that God is love and to emulate him is our directive, our objective. If you didn’t notice, almost all of this post is directly quoted scripture and the reason for that is that you CAN’T know who you are without knowing scripture; without knowing The Word.
